저와 엄마의 관계에 대해 생각한 시절이 있었습니다. 독립을 향한 길에서 이렇게까지 뻔뻔하게 빨아먹어도 되나 싶은 정도의 죄책감이 들었습니다. 이 관계를 심리적으로 답답한 공간에서 벌어지는 하나의 사건으로 바꿔서 표현해 보고 싶었습니다.

For a while, I’ve been thinking about the relationship between me and my mother. In my journey to stand alone, I felt guilty for being so shamelessly dependent on her. I wanted to express this relationship as a single incident, which occurs in a psychologically pressuring space.

Yujin Lee uses the senses of her hands to create individual forms resembling bodily organs. These forms are created as though excreted, amidst cooperation between the artist’s hands and eyes. They become drawings of imagination, stamped flat as a print, and made by various materials and techniques such as Glass Deco, clay, paper mache, etc. The artist is interested in the outward appearance of creatures that have sensory systems, such as arthropods, annelids, echinoderms, and microorganisms, which are unimaginable to human beings. In order to understand the strange feelings the artist gets while encountering these creatures, she creates shapes that remind these organisms with various methods, looking to expand the world they live in.

이유진은 손의 감각을 사용하여 신체 기관을 닮은 개체의 형상을 만든다. 이들 개체는 작가의 손과 눈이 함께 조응하는 가운데, 상상화로 그려지기도 하고, 판화로 납작하게 찍히기도 하며, 글라스데코, 클레이, 페이퍼마셰 등의 여러 재료와 기법을 통해 배설되듯 만들어진다. 작가는 절지동물, 환형동물, 극피동물, 미생물 등과 같이, 인간이 도무지 상상할 수 없는 감각의 생물의 외양에 관심을 가진다. 그들을 마주할 때 느끼는 기묘한 감각을 이해하고자 생명체를 연상시키는 형상을 다양한 방법으로 만들어 이들이 살아가는 세계를 확장하고자 한다.
